New Hope for a Changing Community

Front Facade of Tanner Williams United Methodist Church

Tanner-Williams United Methodist Church (TWUMC) offers new hope for a changing community in northwest Mobile, Alabama. If you are looking for a place to make your church home which combines the rural, small congregation atmosphere with the bustling activity of a larger, urban congregation, TWUMC is the place for you. You'll find something for practically everyone!

The Pastor is the Reverend Ray C. Lane, Jr. Pastor Lane and his wife, Terri, came to us from Mt. Zion East United Methodist Church in Andalusia, Alabama.

The Music Director, Ms. Cherri Fussell, conducts the choir and congregation in weekly worship with deeply inspiring music, combining the best praise music of today with the classical hymns of yesteryear. Moreover, if you love praising God with your voice, or with musical instruments, you will find a warm welcome here at TWUMC to share your talents from God.

The Children's Ministries Coordinator, Mrs. Robyn Terry, is constantly planning and organizing fun, learning activities for the children each Sunday of every week. The Sunday Children's Church activities are truly a blessing, too. Your children will definitely love coming to church here at TWUMC!

The Youth Ministries Coordinator, Mr. Tony Allison, is also constantly planning and organizing fun, yet spiritually challenging, Scripturally-based, Bible studies on both Sundays and Wednesdays of every week. The socially-conscious events, such as a mission trip to help the Hurricane Katrina victims in Louisiana and Mississippi, and the "30-hour Famine" for hunger relief, are just two examples of putting faith into action for youth. Of course, there are activities dedicated completely to having fun, too, such as going to Atlanta Fest in Atlanta, Georgia, and attending local contemporary Christian Music concerts.

At TWUMC there is a fellowship and missions program available for men which meets the second Sunday of every month for a breakfast meeting at the church at 8:15 a.m. Joe Thielen is president of the TW United Methodist Men.

There are also two fellowship and missions programs available for TW United Methodist Women (UMW):

* The "Ruth Circle" is held on the first Tuesday evening of each month at 7 p.m. at the church. Contact Cheryl Stricker, President. Guest speakers and special programs are followed by a brief business meeting and refreshments.

* The "Esther Circle" hosts a luncheon on the first Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m.(Locations TBA)Contact Anita Rushing, President. Guest speakers and special programs also enhance the privilege of gathering together in a member's home.

* TWUMC is excited to announce that the young women of the church have formed their own "Mary Circle." These meetings and locations are TBA. Contact Courtney Grider, President. Crafts for the TWUMC Christmas Bazaar and other fund raisers are only a couple of activities scheduled for this energetic group of young ladies.

This is an especially exciting time in the life of the Tanner-Williams United Methodist Church! Church membership is growing, and the community outreach through Christian fellowship and missions programs touches more lives every day. We invite anyone with a heart for local or world missions involvement, and desiring to work with a group of men, women or teens who are dedicated to making a difference to join us!

Additional information on any of these TWUMC Christian group-fellowship and missions programs may be found on this website or by contacting the church office. We hope that you will find out what exciting and fun activities are going on "right in your own back yard!"

Of course, there's much more that goes on at TWUMC, but these activities are the heart and soul of the congregation, and they demonstrate TWUMC's on-going ministry to the surrounding community and to the world at large. If you'd like to worship here on any given Sunday, be sure to check out the Schedule of Services page for more details on the services and meeting times.
