CHOIR NOTES

           Cherri Fussell

As we come to this time of year, with Thanksgiving ahead, we begin to think of the many blessings God has given us.  Maybe it would be helpful if each of us would heed the advice of the verses above - to really be still and just know that God is God and that He has us in His righteous right hand—the hand that never fails.  If we could take a few moments just to be still and meditate on that thought and list our blessings one by one, we couldn't help but have a spirit of thankfulness and praise as we enter the Thanksgiving season.

The choir has started rehearsing our Christmas cantata, "A Christmas Carol Gallery," which will be presented Sunday, December 13, at 6:00 p.m. Please come and join us on Sunday afternoons if you are interested in singing in our presentation—you are welcome!

May God's richest blessings be upon you and yours during this holiday season.

    In Him,

    Cherri Fussell

"Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.  The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge."                                                Psalm 46:10-11

Since Virginia plays so well and complains so little, very few of us realized how much we need a new church piano.  Cherri suggested that we use the money we have raised with the dessert theaters to start a fund to get a new piano for the church.  The choir agreed, and we have been thinking of ways to raise this money:

Keys

One of the biggest projects is to sell a piano key for $100, which should raise $8,800.  We could make a plaque recognizing donors and memorials.  This is our big project, but we have others.

Birthday Calendar

Celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and other special days is so much better when shared by friends and family.  We have discussed how hard it is to remember our own family's special days, and we came up with the idea of a church birthday calendar so we can remember our friends' birthdays and send a card or a prayer.  We have decided to sell a listing for 50¢ and to sell the calendars for $7.00.  We need only the name and month and day.  (We knew we would severely limit participation if we included the year.)  Either see a choir member or put this information on a slip of paper and get it to one of us soon.  We are starting a little late, but we want to get this information in time to start our calendar in January 2010.  Please get your listings in and let us know how many calendars you will need so we will have enough.  Listing immediate and extended family names will help you stay in touch as well as help us reach our goal.

Book Exchange

On our recent trip to Hawaii we realized that we were all avid readers and passed our books around.  We came up with the idea of facilitating this sharing of books, as well as another way to make funds for the new piano.  We will have a bookshelf in the choir room where you can bring your used books and take another one to read.  This will be on an honor system, and we will have a lockbox to collect funds—we thought 50¢ for a paperback and $1.00 for a hardback.  You can read the book and bring it back or keep it if you want.

We hope you enjoy our efforts to bring joy and love to our worship services through music and hope you will support our projects to make that worship even more special.
