Yes, you are reading correctly - we now have a troop!  Yeah!  This has been 2 years in the making, but we officially have a troop with 8 registered young men, ages 11 to 18, or fifth grader to senior in high school.  We are so excited!  We are looking for anyone interested in serving on the troop committee.  This position helps to determine when a Boy Scout is ready for advancement and to verify and determine if all applicable requirements have been met.  The committee also meets when needed for approval of trips, to discuss finances, and for problem resolution.  So if you want to serve in a small way, but big with needs, please contact me.

The Cubs have been very busy as well.  We used the rest of the summer preparing for our roundup for new Scouts.  The boys are more involved with preparation and decision making as to what they would like to do.  All of our new leaders are trained and ready for the new year.

We chose not to sell popcorn this year; however, we had a garage sale on October 7th at the Country Store.  We were hoping to beat our last sale of $400, but we made just over $100.  The remaining donated items were given to The Mission of Hope and Goodwill.

We now have den flags for each level. This is Big!  Now all ages of dens can participate in flag ceremonies.  We are trying to get a pack banner ready so that we can participate in the Veteran's Day parade in November.  We have part of the material to complete the banner and a volunteer to sew it.  We still need fringe and felt for the message on the front.  Please pray we meet our deadline.  This would be the first march for these Scouts.

We have adopted 2 young Tiger Cubs, or first graders, with the purchase of uniforms.  Our community has a need to make sure these young men don't drop out because of the cost of a uniform, so as a pack, we have kept our promise to meet those needs.  These uniforms will be donated back to the pack if the boys outgrow them or leave the pack.

We are still planning our December visits to the nursing homes.  We will be preparing baskets for the residents and singing Christmas carols.  This is one of the most asked-for trips by these young men.  They just love it.  I will keep you updated on the entire trip.

Our pack is advancing at a fast rate.  Our camping trip on October 16 to 18 at the Chickasabogue Park was successful.  Troop 88 joined us as well.  We did this camp-out with our neighboring Pack 86 from Collier Elementary.  There were over 120 people for the entire weekend.  This was a great time for Pack 86 to meet our troop and to get information regarding meetings, etc.  The next closest troop is down off Cottage Hill and Schillinger Roads.  So with our troop now active, we have added an assistant Scoutmaster, Andrea Pierson, and I have passed the test to be the Unit Commissioner.  Thank you for all your prayers; our troop is now available for our great community.

Thank you all for your calls and concerns regarding my absence.  But God has provided me the strength and the ability to overcome all obstacles.  You all are the best!
